Where's the Beef?

Today i went to a burger spot that i'm quite fond of. It's LBOE or Last Burger on Earth to the fancy types lol. This burger spot is located in the heart of Midtown on Overton Square at 2021 Madison Ave. This is in a prime food spot on the Square. There seems to always be another great food spot to visit on the Square every day and this is one of the best!
I'm always on a constant search for a better burger and Memphis offers a great selection. Of all the burgers I've had, LBOE is definitely in my top 5. I've visited about 3 times and I've never gotten the same burger and each time i'm more impressed than the last. Today was no different.

Today i went with the Madison Melt. OMG!! It was incredible! The burger was cooked perfectly Medium Well and the toppings were amazing. Ham, bacon, sauteed onions, Cheddar !! HEAVEN on a bun!! speaking of bun, their ciabatta buns are the best ever. They aren't hard and are lightly toasted giving them a great little crunch. Paired with a bag of VooDoo chips and it was a perfect lunch.

If you haven't tried LBOE, you are truly missing out on a tasty burger!

Sorry for the Wait...

I have totally neglected posting a blog entry. I have been very busy with work and my impromptu moving. I literally woke up one day and decided that i was moving downtown.  I have been on quite a few food adventures. So let's get the road on the show!!!

Visited Slider Inn. It's always a great experience. I don't think I've ever had the same combination. I go for the Mix and Match. 3 sliders of your choice with fries. For this trip, I went with the Memphis Original, Fish Taco, and the Fried buffalo chicken.

I went over to Trolley Stop and had an incredible pork chop for lunch. I was very impressed. I didn't think i would like it, but went for it because it was the lunch special. It comes with 2 sides so I opted for mashed potatoes and fresh fruit.

You can never go wrong with Street tacos and you can never go wrong with Cafe Ole! The food and the atmosphere are always great! a patio dinner is a great way to spend some time with that special someone....weather permitting. We all know how unpredictable the Memphis weather can be.

Another trip to Dixon Gallery for Food Truck Fridays! I went with the smoked chicken club from Food Geeks. Incredible! Service was top notch.

Took a trip to Cheffi's Cafe in the Highpoint area. I have never experienced a salad made this way and i was more than impressed. I know a salad and beer combo isn't an ideal fit, but how can you say no to a Samuel Adams October fest??

Took a midday trip over to Shelby Farms for Slide Fest. I had such high hopes for this. The hype was definitely high for this event. Sadly, it did not live up to the hype. It was a great idea, but poorly executed. I don't like writing about bad experiences , but this one was worth mentioning. Not only was the location not ideal, but you couldn't slide the entire thing. there were 2 to 3 areas that you had to stand and walk a bit a slide again. There were lots of dry spots on the slide as well. It had all the possibility to be great, but it was just not worth the money.

Monday Night Shenanigans

Got a case of the Mondays? Just got off from my long day wishing it was still the weekend? Well, extend that weekend by one half day and get your butt down to The Blind Bear Memphis! This is one of my favorite bars in the whole city and they have an incredible margarita Monday. It's literally the best place to be on Monday.

The margaritas come in three different octanes You get to pick your poison here. Whether you go for the $4 regular or the $8 supreme, you won't be disappointed. One of the better margaritas that I've had in the city.

The Blind Bear is in an incredible location right on Main Street. The patio is perfect for people watching. It also features lots of nooks and crannies inside to lounge, an extensive bar, a great kitchen that open late, and a great staff. I've never had a bad experience here. They also have, what I like to call The Boom Boom Room behind the mirror at the bar😏😏.

The Blind Bear is located at 119 S Main St right across from the Jolly Royal Furniture store. If you're in search of a great brunch spot, Blind Bear has you covered with their Hungry As A Bear Brunch on the weekends. Get the Chicken and Waffles! Thank me later.

Get out and explore all the local food spots and bars in Memphis!

Straight Outta Questions

Haven't seen Straight Outta Compton yet? Well why not? Get up and go see this movie! I saw it over the past weekend and it was a really good film. It showed a side of hip hop I think few knew was there in regards to social issues. It was also good to hear some of the best music in hip hop. I won't go into how terrible hip hop is these days.
I really enjoyed the movie, but I'm a bit confused as to why theaters felt the need to increase security for this particular film. There's nothing in this film that would make me want to go out and commit some crime either at the theater or anywhere else. I'm wondering who even suggested this and what exactly was their reasoning behind it.
Of course, as a black man, I have my own thoughts and theories, but I don't want to automatically jump to any conclusions. Whoever it was, they are totally out of touch with reality and obviously a prejudice person.
I went to the Collierville Malco theater and all I saw was one police officer that was churning it up with the person that checks the tickets and points you in the direction of your movie. He hardly made me feel protected in any way.

Anyways, that's my rant, which should have been posted last week. The movie is pretty good.

Another random thing. I saw on Twitter that someone posted about the movie that Easy E dies. A younger kid replied and said "don't spoil the movie". It was hilarious. I totally forgot that Easy E died long before some of these kids were even born. OK that was my funny moment. Go see the film.

A lunch adventure on Summer Ave

I was invited to lunch by a good friend of mine. I was shocked that it was a place I've never been to before. He wanted to go to Elwood Shack and guaranteed that I would love it.

I must say I was a bit disappointed in the looks of the place, but one thing that I've learned on my food adventures is the worst looking places usually have the best food. And this place did not disappoint at all!

Fish taco(trout) was incredible! I'm not a big fan of fish but this was awesome. All the ingredients made my mouth feel like a disco.

Next up was the Brisket taco and it was even better than the fish taco. It was the epitome of what unicorn tears might taste like lol. Is a food orgasm possible? If so, then this would be what it is like.

Last up were the jerk chicken wings. I think the pic speaks for the taste. Awesome! They were also some of the biggest wings I've ever seen. Bionic chickens, maybe? Who cares! Get these bad boys!

I have to give it to my friend on this spot. It is truly a diamond in the rough. It's located off Summer and Perkins but you'd be better off going to the Lowes parking lot to find it easier. I give this place 2 thumbs up. My only issue is that I don't have more thimbs to give it.

Food Truck Friday

Looking to try some of the best food trucks in the city? Then you should head on over to Dixon Gallery and Gardens' Food Truck Fridays. Every Friday Dixon features 2-3 local food trucks from 1130-130pm.  I recently visited and it was a great experience. I love food and a great walk in the park. This outing achieved both of those.

Entrance
Scattered around are sculptors by Japanese artist Jun Kaneko

Now on to the Food!
I heard about a food truck called Stick 'Em and i finally got the chance to try them out. Needless to say, it was awesome! I got the steak and chicken platter, which included rice and mixed vegetables. The food was cooked very well and the owners of the truck were very cool. The platter was about $10.

So get out next Friday and enjoy a nice lunch in the park. Support local businesses and food.

*Weekly Rant*

Something that has gotten me a bit upset during the past week is the response to the killing of Officer Sean Bolton. I do understand the climate these days in regards to police brutality and how some law enforcement personnel abuse their power. I'm not turning a blind eye to that in any way. That is terrible and has to stop. There should really be some law enforcement reform in this country.

With that being said, i want to say that the way some people have responded is downright terrible and appalling. I've seen Facebook comments and posts saying that "the cop got what he deserved" "the cop was racist" "it's about time a cop was killed". When did it become OK to like or applaud a person's death? That's disgusting. I get that blacks are very upset and at the boiling point about police brutality and racial issues, but that doesn't make it right to go and kill a white person simply because you're mad. Come on people.

There are also lots of half truths and misunderstandings when it comes to the justice system. Some believe the 9 million bond set on the killer was too high. They fail to admit or include that he's a convicted criminal and he was also in possession of a loaded weapon, violating the terms of his parole. I've also seen comparisons to the amount of bond for this incident to the bond for Dylann Roof in South Carolina. They have said he killed 9 people and was given a 1 million dollar bond. What they have failed to admit or include was that South Carolina does not set bond for murder charges. So he never would have gotten out, even if he paid the 1 million bond, which was for a weapons charge.

THe other day, I saw a t-shirt with he killer on the front and it said he just wanted a fair trial. I don't understand why anyone would wear that shirt, unless they were completely out of touch with reality and facts. I believe people are using this incident to stir the pot of racial division and using it to further theor agenda.

I am all for equality for all people, but i can not condone the senseless killing of any person. What are your thoughts? DO you feel the bond was set too high? Do you feel it was a self defense killing? I would love to hear your thoughts and feelings on this unfortunate incident.

British Bingo Wednesday

Went to The Brass Door to play some British Bingo hosted by fellow kickball extraordinaire Diamond Dave. Had a great time. Good times with some great friends. Many ask what exactly British Bingo is and how it differs from American Bingo, it's played at a faster pace and it can get frustrating and exciting all in the span of 2 seconds.
If you're looking for something new to do on a Wednesday at 730, try out The Brass Door. Also, the fish and chips were incredible.

The Newness

Well here we are....I have been asked several times why i don't have my own blog. For whatever ppl seem to think i'm interesting. I'm not sure i agree, but i do get into my fair share of shenanigans. This blog will be comprised of my adventures, thoughts, randomness around time, and my personal favorite thing; FOOD! I am pretty much an explorer of the city. So strap in and prepare for the awesomeness that will be my blog! To infinity and beyond!
